Sedalia records report H. Adams once a star witness in train robbery cases now faces embezzlement charges. Lizzie Light of Kansas City accuses Adams of diverting $400 in 1896 and concealing his identity in bankruptcy. Adams arrested in Springfield and to be brought back for trial.
Nevada Missouri January 22 a large lodge meeting passed a resolution commending Governor Stephens for appointing R P Rice as railroad commissioner. Marshall society ladies hosted a pink luncheon with guests noting the event and playful remarks about the color pink and young men in town.
Wichita reports Mrs Carrie Nation and associates freed after arrest for wrecking two saloons. She vows to continue demolishing saloons, supported by a mob of about 500. Salvation Army escorts her to the depot for a Newtown-bound train as a theater offer surfaces for later consideration.
Peter Long's will filed today leaves one dollar to sons Daniel F. Long William J. Long and Edward N. Long and to daughters Emily P Mead and Louisa Long. The remainder goes half to the widow and half split equally between sons Frank Long and Patrick Long. The widow and son Frank are named executors.

A large crowd attended the Sedalia bowling evening featuring cocked hat and ten pin matches against Columbia. Team members from both cities included Emil Ott and C E Baker for Sedalia and C C Clendennin for Columbia. A horse theft case connected to Versailles was noted with a recovered animal found near Lodem a nine miles east of Versailles. The Rocking Chair club later met with Mrs. Kate Hawkins to hear her account of the Passion Play.
