A mob in the Seminole Nation hanged Lewis McGeesey and Howard Martin after confessing to Mrs. Leard’s murder. The two men, burned and charred, were displayed chained to an oak tree as crowds visited the grisly scene. Police arrested about twenty Indians amid the tumult.
