A Santa Fe passenger train was wrecked near Lang Kansas by unknown wreckers. Elmer Derrick an express messenger died at the scene and Engineer H C Davis later died in hospital. Several injured, detectives seek motive and suspects as a reward is promised.
A display of four hundred Old Testament scenes by J Jacob James Tissot now tours the Missouri University campus. The artist, once an infidel, traveled to Palestine to study daily life and aims to truthfully depict Biblical narratives. The Kansas University showing drew many visitors, with 180 from Topeka.
Proceedings in the Pettis County circuit court centered on Maggie Counce's divorce from J F M Counce with Special Judge Shortridge presiding over objections raised by Homer Phillips the husband’s attorney. The court overruled objections and testimony proceeded, leading to at 3 o clock a decree granted to the plaintiff. attorneys expect no reversal by higher courts.

Interment followed in the city cemetery.
The city council awarded the alley paving contract between Fifth Sixth streets to Dean Bros and district sewer No 20 to William F Hall at 80 cents per foot. George T Menefee and T W Roberts bids were higher. An ordinance on steam heat rates was repealed after investigation.
The first annual meeting of the New York State Breeders Association opened at the state armory in Syracuse with attendees from across the state. Milo H. Clin gave the opening address, and J B Smallwood spoke on fair management regarding the state appropriation. Speakers include Lieut Governor M Linn Bruce and profs from Cornell and Iowa State. The three day program features cattle and hog breed exhibitions, special breed meetings, and valuable prizes promise.
The Devlin creditors formed a five member committee to move the estate out of court and to replace temporary trustees with permanent ones. The committee report shows the companies under current charge have earned $56,000, while additional claims totaling nearly a million dollars were presented against the estate.
A Golden State Limited Rock Island train derailed near Conant New Mexico late last night injuring seventeen people. All are reported only slightly hurt except for the observation car which went off an embankment. There were no fatalities, a fact described as remarkable.

The three month old child of Mr and Mrs Eugene Gibbons of 1118 East Third street was found dead in bed between seven and eight oclock by the parents who summoned Dr H B Cole but life was extinct. Coroner Titsworith viewed the body and ruled natural causes with no inquest. Nourishment had been given at 430 this morning and the infant appeared healthy then. The father works as a blacksmith helper at Missouri Pacific shops.

L. P. Andrews returns from the East and says there is no public news on the proposal merger, but anticipates favorable developments within the next few days.
A marriage license was issued today to William O. Phillips of Coffeyville Kansas and Mary E. Farley of Green Ridge.

Lawton Oklahoma December 19 A Rock Island freight crashed into the caboose of another near Waurika Oklahoma today crushing to death conductor Jack Carnes and his brakeman The first train waited for track clearance blocked by a small wreck at Waurika and the second train was not flagged.
In New York opposite the Waldorf Astoria three laborers died and ten were injured when a blast in excavating for a new building exploded prematurely. One body was thrown into a neighboring room, another's head is missing, and a third had limbs torn away.
