Emile Gouques an unbalanced youth was questioned by police in Bordeaux to determine if he sent a bomb to the American embassy in Paris a year ago aimed at ambassador Myron T. Herrick. The blast damaged a room and injured the ambassador's valet. Herrick was away. Gouques reportedly confessed to sending hand grenades through the mafia to British, Spanish and Swiss consuls.
President Harding expects the Latin American conference in Washington in December to open steps toward land disarmament in Europe. The meeting extends the U S push against heavy armaments and aims to set an example encouraging broader disarmament abroad.

Unidentified man, about 40 to 80 years old, 6 feet 9 inches tall and dark haired, was found floating near Pier DD at noon Tuesday. Coroner W. H. Carson and police investigated a drowned death possibly dating two to three weeks prior. He wore overalls a dark coat and a blue suit and is believed to have been a dock worker.

Mrs. Jane Gibson, 50, widow, said she witnessed the September 14 killings of Rev. Edward W. Hall and Mrs. Eleanor Mills at the Phillips farm. She described seeing two men and two women with a pistol fire on a couple after locating missing property. She fled as Mills screamed.
A man identified as Paul Wilson Jr., 24, of Highland Park New Jersey, is held in Philadelphia for questioning in the Hall Mills murder case. He was detained near Broad Street Station on suspicion of having information about the mysterious crime.
In Michigan City Indiana on October 24 a long chase by African lion hunters bloodhounds and a dozen posses ended with the discovery that the much pursued lion was a dog. The mastiff named Dash belonged to Adolph Whitmier and had been seen near a remote hut in dense woods prompting school closings. Edward Gable one of nine witnesses lightheartedly called it the joke on them.
Paul W. Schrape a 38 year old seaman, shot himself in Pioneer square at 10 45 Tuesday morning before a large crowd. He died en route to hospital. Schrape had been recently aboard the steamer West Broxton and was despondent over illness. Coroner W H Carson reported finding sixty dollars in his pockets.
London Oct 24 Bonar Law and Lord Curzon map Britain’s policy toward sea power with two aims: repay Britain’s debt to the United States and foster close Anglo American ties. Geddes remains ambassador as Washington hosts a debt conference. McKenna may attend with treasury officials while Geddes acts as plenipotentiary.
Ralph Palmer, an escaped California jewel thief, vanished from a westbound Union Pacific train between Rawlins and Rock Springs as it neared Rawlins. Palmer, who was being moved from New York to San Francisco in custody, fled after a guard awoke to find him gone and a chloroformed cloth on the floor. He had slipped his restraints and stolen $800 from the guard’s pillow.
