In Los Angeles Mrs Clara Phillips shows little fear as jury selection resumes for her murder trial of Mrs Alberta Meadows. The court reopened at 10 oclock with the examination of the 12th prospective juror while crowds watch outside the packed courtroom.
Police sought a relative by marriage of Mrs. C. A. Pettibone of Portland for investigation in an alleged poisoning case. Pettibone was found suffering from poison and rescue efforts were needed to save her. The man, from San Francisco, reportedly left the Pettibone home after she fell ill saying this would be the last time he would see her.
A Bayonne New Jersey arrest followed a claim by Albert F. Molnar that he set the Lexington avenue fire in New York causing 14 deaths. He later denied knowledge of the blaze while authorities link the act to an incendiary gang. Fire officials say the fire was incendiary and a burned baby carriage clue supported the murder method.
In Tacoma on October 23 Frank Mc Cleary 33 a lumberman hit a small car injuring 7 year old Murray Morgan son of Rev Henry Victor Morgan. Mc Cleary posted 700 bail after being charged with driving while intoxicated. A quart of whisky was found in his car.
George M. Chapman a 45 year old Oakland broker of the Washington hotel was struck by a Phinney avenue street car on Westlake avenue N crossing the tracks. He was hurled 20 feet and is in critical condition at Seattle General hospital. He had been with John KR Maclean who witnessed the incident. Also in the report Mrs Dan Johnson and her son were injured in a separate car collision near Rendmond.
President Harding publicly backs Texas Republicans in a senatorial dispute as RK. B. Creager discusses George E. B. Peddy, a 30 year old lawyer, backed by anti Ku Klux Klan Democrats and the GOP to oppose Earle B. Mayfield. Litigation now bars the candidates from the official ballot.
