An fire swept through Aberdeen Washington early this morning threatening the entire business district. The fire department was overwhelmed and aid was dispatched from Hoquiam South and West Aberdeen and Montebano. Telegraph service was cut off as the Western Union office near the fire line was affected. The blaze began under mysterious circumstances.
J L Tevick a Northern Pacific brakeman was crushed to death at Ange Amite near Amite City. He was struck by a derailed caboose of an extra freight train while attempting to jump clear. Coroner Hoye and deputies investigated and the body was taken to Bonney-Watson morgue. Tevick, a Tacoma resident, had worked for nearly five years and was well known among Northwest railroad workers.
Deputy Sheriff Corcoran orders all gambling operations to cease by 8 o'clock tomorrow morning with tools seized and destroyed if any gambler or slot-machine owner remains. He says prosecutors will be forced to act if Beett refuses to prosecute, asserting earnest intent to enforce the law.
Rumors fly of a merger between the Citizens' Light and Power and Beart Gas and Electric as gas rates fall from 2 to 1.5 dollars per thousand cubic feet. Citizens' says no consolidation. October 15 rate of 1.5 with prompt payment discounts to be applied, while Beart seeks contracts at lower cents.

The State against H Beumida, charged with assaulting his 15 year old niece Yona, was dismissed by Superior Judge Bell due to the absence of the prosecuting witness. After a preliminary hearing the girl testified she lied on the stand and that Beumida was not guilty. Prosecutors argue they are unable to locate her whereabouts or other interested parties.
