In L Ontario on May 5 seven members of the La Croix family died after consuming wild parsnips believed poisoned with strychnine. Victims include Joseph 75 Napoleon 40 Mrs Napoleon and four children aged 11 10 8 and 6 with two younger siblings surviving. Coroner Kirby ruled accidental poisoning after inquiry.

Fire chiefs and detectives probe an arson attempt on the Los Angeles Record building late at night. A passerby spotted flames two stories high as two men fled along the Pacific Electric tracks, pursued by Patrolman Stevens who did not capture them.
Alumni drive to raise 7500 for University of Washington oarsmen to compete in Poughkeepsie in June reports $3910.40 pledged by Friday noon with 1500 left to raise by Saturday night. Donations from Hoquiam Hotary club and many individuals listed including J C Marmaduke Julius Lang and Walter Nettleton among others.

In Canton on May 7 police battled gangsters after the kidnapping of a motorcycle officer. Three men were killed Eddie Stevenson Ralph Hoffee and an unidentified bandit others wounded including Jesse Vogle and Robert Boston. The gunmen barricaded in a farm house before fleeing to a wood and being surrounded.
Mrs Margaret Emerson Baker arrived in New York aboard the Rotterdam from Boulogne and Plymouth denying rumors she sought a divorce from her husband Ray T Baker director of the mint in Washington.
Dr. Badwin J. Brown, Seattle’s elected mayor, vows to fix Seattle in two years and says he may change departmental staffing after taking office. He emphasizes honesty, ability, courage of convictions, and loyalty to friends as guiding principles while preparing to study city departments.
Sam Watkins, condemned for the murder of Mia Cora Jones, faced the electric chair at the estate prison in McAllister Oklahoma. He stated I am not afraid before being strapped in and was pronounced dead three minutes after the current began.
