Colfax May 3 Harria W Creen aged 4 filed in superior court a petition declaring he was insane and asking for a commission to examine him and commit him to an asylum. The petition was granted and Creen was taken to Bellacoom. The filing is remarked as one of the most remarkable documents in the state.
The Standard reports May 2 that the War Office is more hopeful for a quick end to the African war than in recent weeks. Food and manpower arrangements, based on a cease in hostilities, are now likely to be canceled.
From Cape Town dated May 1 the dispatch says Boers concentrate near Klerksdorp in Southwestern Transvaal near the Vaal river. Gen Babington reports frequent engagements with the enemy.
Washington May 2 Cardinal Martinelli, invested yesterday, will stay in the United States for one year as representative of the pope with the title Pro delegate to the United States. The appointment signals ongoing liaison between the Vatican and U.S. church authorities during the period.
Unknown burglars raided R. B. Goddard general merchandise in Elberton and set the building ablaze. The fire destroyed the store and stock while Goddard slept upstairs. robbers took 215 dollars hidden in a nail keg. He escaped with minor injuries as smoke awakened him.
