New York June 3 A clash between Samuel Untermyer and Mortimer Schiff arose during the Lockwood committee inquiry into a tri partition steel merger. Schiff admitted a 20 million dollar fund to support stock prices and anticipated a stock exchange listing within weeks. Chadbourne, intermediary for the merger, refused to reveal confidential negotiations and faced a possible subpoena while noting potential earnings of about a million dollars if the deal succeeds.
