J Pierpont Morgan spoke three percent of words about the steel strike causing Wall Street costs to rise as rumors of a compromise faded. His denial triggered a broad stock selloff with 18 leading issues down $48,592,295, signaling that financial circles see no quick settlement.
Reports from Pittsburgh and Monessen in July indicate the steel strike is nearing a crisis. The steel trust plans to resume with non union labor next week using all legal protections.
