Passenger lists emerge from the Walla Walla voyage showing many saved and many still unknown. The roster names McClellan and Hastings along with captains and crew members across departments on board the vessel, including Beattie, Peters, and Larson, with officers and ratings listed by role and home port. The document reflects a complex inventory of travelers and ship staff amid uncertain fates.
Fragmentary report notes a prisoner refusing to work while others resumed tasks on the chain. An incident led to a number 8190 being brought back as part of the disrupted labor sequence.

Four section men were killed near Monmouth Illinois when a passenger train struck a handcar on the tracks. They were en route to work on a handcar as a freight engine stalled on a parallel track. The speeding passenger train hit the men and wreckage, sending bodies and debris high into the air.

A $10 deposit was asked from applicants for a watchman job, and a crowd assembled to apply. Haffey, aka Davia, faces probable prosecution for fraud as investigators pursue how many were taken and the full scheme.
A large Pacific Coast Co wharf crowd watched the steamer City of Puebla depart for San Francisco amid somber mood. Crew members who had sailed recent with the Walla Walla showed sorrow and attachment, their work felt half-hearted as officials recalled the tragedy.
Three thefts were logged by police including a shotgun stolen from C. D. Hillman’s Green Lake office with a $10 reward offered for recovery. Mike Holland of 40 Yesterday was robbed of an overcoat. Charlies M Thorn reported tools stolen from 416 Fifth Avenue South.
