The Seattle Electric Company announces plans to double track the Ballard line and considers extending double tracking to University and Fremont to Ballard routes. City residents urge guarantees that all single track lines be upgraded within a set time before further franchises are granted.
The penial to The Star reports the steamer Indianapolis sailed today and should reach Port Townsend around 3 PM. The town heads admire fireworks and a crowd gathers as Manager Peabody and Captain Roberts oversee the voyage. The steamer City of Topeka left Pier 2 at 2 PM to escort the Indianapolis down the bay with many prominent business men aboard.
Judge Hanford of the District Court remanded Joseph Walton to county jail for trial after issuing a writ of forpus. The decision upholds the constitutionality of the barbering statute but notes it admits more than one interpretation and awaits state court ruling. Walton allegedly shaved a man in a hotel room on Sunday. The plaintiff argued the law targets one class of work without justification.
Lincoln’s birthday is to be observed at the First Presbyterian Church by the Sons of Veterans. Dr. Matthews will address the meeting. Schools in the district plan to mark the day with lessons on Lincoln’s life.
Emancipation Day will see adjustments as some classes run while the day is not generally observed. Banks city hall courthouse and other public offices will close. Churches recall great American deeds. The Young Men's Republican club holds a banquet at the Washington.
The transport Meade sails at noon for the Philippines carrying many cabin passengers a full cargo and the second infantry. The troops aboard have prior service in the Philippines and several took part in the Boxer uprising in China.
Elliot Schenck, musical director of the Savage English Grand Opera company now in Seattle, will lecture to university students in Denny Hall Monday at 10 15 AM on Wagner's Operas. The talk will be illustrated on the piano by Schenck, with public admission. Nicholas Oconomacos will perform a clarinet solo.
At a crowded session in Madrona hall the Third ward Republicans unanimously endorsed John Riplinger for mayor. Riplinger thanked the meeting while Chief speakers from BE Co. Brier, Harry FE. Wilson and others urged turnout of a larger Republican vote.
The Rainier Heights Improvement Club met last night with Lakeside Improvement Club representatives attending to Heten. They addressed the park bond issue supported by C. J. Smith, president of the park board, and Secretary Hall. The bond issue and the light bonds were endorsed.
Port Townsend reports the French bark Admiral Courbet, towed from San Francisco for charter, ran aground and drifted for a 10 day period before being salvaged. With the charter date missed, it was ordered to Australia in ballast, but a crew mutiny halted loading. The ship now carries 1,960 tons and Beattle’s Beattle channel is readied to handle the situation as Roche is expected Sunday.
Reports from the Interbay trestle collision differ on who ordered the black lights to be pulled. John Heron the Ballard car motorman died after the crash claiming he followed orders and pulled the lights while Fuller of the Fort Lawton car says the lights were not on and he had right of way. Other crew members corroborate cautious driving and recall the moment of impact. Heron’s body to be shipped to Roslyn Washington. he leaves a wife and child. He is survived by parents three brothers and five sisters. He was a member of the Seattle Street Car Men's Protective association and Knights of Pythias.
Only two days remain to register for the three municipal election. Registration will stay open at a hall until noon on Monday and Tuesday. Lincoln's Birthday is noted but officials will keep the books open. Voters on March 6 must already be registered or register after January 1, 1906.
The defeated mayoral candidate, Mr. Brown, blames gambling interests for his loss to Mr. Mueller. He vowed to swear out warrants to shut down shops after the new year, yet gambling remains flourishing with night time roulette sounds and visible activity despite threats and promises.

A person claiming to be Keele Collins and presenting as a female was arrested at First and Pike this morning for creating a disturbance. He said he was an actress from Tacoma, was sent to headquarters to sober up, and was later revealed to be male after a search in the women’s ward. The individual had been an attraction at Mose Goldsmith's resort, masquerading as a woman to solicit drinks from patrons. At arraignment before Justice Gordon he was released on the condition to avoid the restricted district in the future.

The medal features two small boats in a heavy sea in gold and silver with an inscription praising devotion to duty.
The body of Fred Overhelm, a longshoreman visiting since January 17, was found floating in the bay this morning. He is believed to have fallen from the St. Paul dock.
