A early morning Portland fire swept a frame lodging district between East Morrison and East Water Street, killing twenty and injuring twenty others. Fire officials said the Mount Hood talon blaze spread rapidly, trapping residents in flimsy lodgings as flames reached the Morrison Bridge approach and nearby businesses, with several victims identified among local families.
The 200 mile international automobile pace began at 1 pm in Havana. Cedrino and Lancia exited early with Cedrino ditched and Lancia needing a doctor after losing his machine in a slight incident.
