John W. DeCamp a Beattie businessman suffered severe burns while trying to rescue a sleeping servant girl from his blazing residence on Broadway near Nant Ben Era Street. He was removed to Providence hospital in doubtful condition after his wife and her sister escaped with minor injuries as the fire consumed the building.

Collision wrecks Chicago and Kansas City passenger train near Pren tee
A fast passenger and mail train from Chicago to Kansas City collided with a heavy freight near Pren tee shortly after midnight. The engineer and fireman aboard the passenger train were killed.
