Senate and house conferees agree on a substitute for the Stanley anti home search and seizure amendment to the beer bill. The change drops the word properly to allow dry agents to search bootlegger automobiles without warrants.
In Chicago a woman, Mrs John Mc Cain, told the court All men are boobs especially husbands as she was fined ten dollars for being in company with a man other than her husband.
Cheyenne Wyoming August 20. I d I Hurst alias Jack Cross wanted for alleged complicity in a Toledo mail robbery was arrested after an exciting chase through the streets that night. Police exchanged scores of shots with Hurst and two bystanders were wounded by flying bullets. He was captured in the railroad yards where he took refuge.
In Scio Ohio a local resident discovered a turtle bearing a knife cut that matching a mark made by merchant W Keck Cunningham in 1879. The finding ties back to the old incident at the Cunningham location near the turtle’s back.
Seattle's municipal street car system will save about $60 264 annually by moving trainmen to a monthly salary basis. The plan, proposed by the council budget committee and prepared by Railway Chief D W Henderson, aligns trainmen salaries with police and firemen. Monthly rates will be 135 145 150 and 155 per month based on length of service, replacing day labor rates of 4 75 to 5 25 per day.
Mrs. Aaron Berg of Montgomery Alabama says her husband, a local butcher, sent her three handkerchiefs to use when she felt like weeping over his desertion.
In Detroit near Mount Clemens two men robbed a man and two women of 17564 dollars in diamonds and jewelry, stole their automobile, and fled.

Flames swept the home of Mrs. Mary Hera at 951 West 54th Street as she crawled from bed and escaped through smoke. She fainted at a window and was carried to safety as the blaze gutted the residence. Inspector R. J. Fraser led the inquiry, with investigators deeming the fire incendiary.

The body of Geraldine McLaughlin, 16, of 723 16th Ave North, was recovered at 9 am Saturday after drowning Friday night while moonlit swimming at La Washington. Reuben Wilkes and her sister found her body in 12 feet of water, 150 feet from shore. She had stepped off a ledge.
Samuel R. Harris, 20, of New York, admitted to Police Chief Howards that he faked the story of being offered 50 000 dollars by an unidentified man to take part in a plot to murder Mrs Fifi Potter Stillman. He said he wanted his name in the papers.
