More than twenty Seattle laundrymen attend the Spokane convention of the State Association of Laundrymen. Patrolman J D Peterson injured after a fall in his cellar last week and treated at the city hospital. In Roseburg Oregon 31 names were drawn to form a jury of 12 for Dr R M Brumfield's murder trial for Dennis Russell. The grand jury is to meet Saturday to indict Brumfield and the trial to start the following Monday. Brumfield is being held in the Roseburg jail with other prisoners and his wife has visited briefly.
Chief William H. Searing warns of a new Seattle crime wave after three black bandits in a stolen Hudson terrorize the Northend and University districts. Victims include Mrs. A L Harper and George Hartman, with other robberies at University Stadium and nearby streets. Police hunt license 3779 as city records show rising burglaries and petty theft.
Striking miners clash with non union workers as eight large mines start with strike breakers under guard. About 1,000 workers to be used while unions are ordered from company housing by August 31. Washington coal to sell at $1.50 to $3 below last March prices as shipments rise.
The Pacific Coast lumber committee and shipping men met to interpret a new Shipping Board order suspending bookings for lumber cargoes to the Orient.
