Brumfield pleads mind blank over murder of Dennis Russell but longs to return to Roseburg to see his wife and sons. Roseburg DA Neuner says transfer date secret pending jail conditions and Brumfield’s mental recovery.
James E. Mahoney remains under watch at the county jail as doctors declare him “too insane” to be believed, and his lawyer plans further insanity charges. Prosecutor Malcolm Douglas complains the delay could aid the defense as Mahoney faces a first degree murder plea for his wife Kate Mahoney.
Detectives estimated the Good Killers gang of hired assassins may have caused more than 100 murders. Six alleged members are jailed in the Tombs as investigators pursue bloody trails reaching Pittsburg Chicago Buffalo Detroit and various New Jersey cities. Most killings linked to the gang occurred in New York Chicago and Detroit.
San Francisco Aug 18 Arrangements for a speedy trial for William Hightower on the murder charge of Rev. Father Patrick Heslin were announced by San Mateo county officers. Hightower promised to waive delays and arraignment and preliminary hearing may be held together within days. He said I want to go into court and plead no guilty.
Jack, a two year old malamute from Nungashak Alaska and bred by trapper Robert Murz, wanders Seattle streets, causes a commotion, is chased by cars, and is finally led back to the Grand Central Garage by Patrolman George Reynolds. His owner plans to train him as a leader of a dog team.
