Two Seattle fishermen died when their dory capsized in the Hecate Straits on August 1. John A. Anderson, 39, of 419 Davey Place, and Thomas Thompson, 40, of Ballard, were aboard the fishing boat with heavy oilskins and boots unable to swim as a strong tide dragged them away. The gas schooner Liberty, docked after weeks at sea, reported the tragedy. captains noted neither saw the capsize. Thompson leaves a widow and one child. Both men had lived in Seattle for years. it was their first voyage with Capt. Endal.
Prosecutor Douglas filed a formal first degree murder charge against James E. Mahoney for the April 16 killing of his wife with a blunt instrument. The state will present about 60 witnesses as Mahoney pled not guilty and vowed a bitter fight for his life.
Dr. Frank R. Loope announces Sunshine Smiles a weekly Sun Shine Smiles column for shut-ins in The Star. He led a Tacoma day trip with Joshua Green and Nile Temple Shrine’s sick committee members, including A A Adams, aboard the Tacoma steamship, to share a rare excursion in a remarkable act of cheer and companionship.
Thomas Harrigan, 16, was struck from behind by an unknown assailant along a woods path near his home Tuesday night. He was knocked unconscious, no robbery occurred, and the attacker fled. Patrolman R R Moulton scoured the area but found no one.
Senator Johnson of California urged open sessions in the disarmament conference today. He said the first test of the conference’s success will be over whether sessions are open. Washington report dated Aug 10.

Rev Fred R Royston a Salem Oregon Methodist preacher held on Mann Act charges with Miss Frankie Edwards was freed on 2000 bail posted by two congregants. He blamed the woman for luring him from the straight path saying some blame belongs to her. Edwards is 19 Royston 33 and married with one child.
Vancouver mayor Kiggins says nearly the full $130,000 issue of dock bonds will be taken by local business firms, indicating strong local investor interest and municipal financing stability.
Spokane reports lumbermen from Washington Oregon Idaho and Montana attended sessions of the Western Pine Manufacturers association to discuss industry issues and cooperative plans.
In Seattle two men Ed ward Patton alias Frank Nichols and Louis Gordon alias Louis Lazarus confess to bank messenger robberies totaling 25000 last July. They are held in Kansas City for extradition along with five alleged accomplices including Elva Ducker Myrtle Moore and Milo Moore. The Burne Detective agency aided the arrest. In Tacoma Ole Larson former bank president asks for rehearing and venue change to King county.
After eight years in San Quentin Leo Ricel pleaded to be taken back to the penitentiary. He says the prison is the only place that feels like home.
Four men were lynched in California after an armed confrontation. Fourteen suitcases found contained mostly expensive women’s wearing apparel. The currency was in a money belt worn by Elva Ducker. Altho Gordon and Patton exonerate the others, all seven are held awaiting extradition papers from Seattle.
In Long Beach New York on August 10 details emerge of a marital breakdown after Tellegen and Bernhardt actress Farrar began a romantic affair at Tellegen’s fishing shack. Friends say Tellegen abandoned his platonic role, leading to a stormy July confrontation and Farrar fleeing to New York.
Five people appeared to claim the $2000 reward for the Mahoney trunk found in Lake Union. H J Bell the police diver led the effort with Captain Tennant and the police department backing the claimants.
