Not His "Bit" Soldier's Farewell to Father and Nation
A patriotic letter from a California soldier who fell in service expresses gratitude and resolve. He thanks his father for raising him strong and educated, vows to give his life for America, and salutes his father as a country in peril. The note mentions Liberty Day and the Third Liberty Loan as part of a national call to support the war effort. The piece notes Seattle youths marching and the father’s Oakland citizenship.
