War Bond Rally Is Scheduled in Orange County

A county wide war bond rally is planned for next Wednesday July 22 in Orange County with Hollywood stars, Bob Crosby and his orchestra, and a 100 member Army band. Santa Ana Birch Park will host all day entertainment and bond sales with free admission, each person required to buy a war stamp. Seal Beach will feature a portion of the caravan and a WEA booth on Main and Ocean for bonds and stamps.

Wheel Thieves Strip Machine

An automobile owned by G. C. McPherson of Little Lake California residing at Maple Leaf apartments Long Beach was stolen with the two front wheels removed. The car was found in the Gum Grove in Seal Beach last Thursday morning. Local police traced the car to an Los Angeles agency that had sold it to McPherson and provided his Long Beach address. The owner said his son Edmond took the car Sunday night and it was stolen after being parked.

Defense Workers Get Vanishing Vehicles

Two new automobiles were rationed last week to Seal Beach defense workers Harold Hauflake and Ray F. Carlile. The July 10 ration list shows C. Menchart of Garden Grove and Los Alamitos Blvd receiving a truck tire and tube, D. D. Lawhead a recap tire, and Joseph F. Case a recap and a new tube. Seal Beach police car also received a recap.

Gate Crasher Fined for Reckless Driving

Death of Malcolm H. Botsford's grandfather prompted a trip to Long Beach. In Seal Beach Police Court Judge Fred J. Smith fined Botsford $35 for reckless driving after his car crashed into the gates of the City Yard on Electric avenue near Second street. The car sustained minor damage and Botsford was not injured.

Fatal Coast Highway Crash Near Glider Inn

One woman died, another was critically injured, and a third less seriously hurt in a head on collision on the Coast Highway near the Glider Inn. A Mercury driven by M. M. Lindenberg of Long Beach struck a Ford driven by Mrs. Lucille Benedict of Long Beach. Lindenberg sustained serious injuries and was unconscious at Seaside Hospital, while Benedict was treated at Community Hospital for a broken arm and internal injuries. Police are determining the identity of the deceased passenger who died en route to the hospital.

Boy's Lip Gashed In Surf Mishap

Sonny Lusk a nine year old boy of Fourteenth Street Seal Beach was riding a paddle board when it lost control gashed his lip and cracked a tooth. He received several stitches and, according to the doctor, did not whimper during the operation.

Rip Tide Rescue Saves Boy and Girl At Beach

A girl and a youth were caught in a rip tide at the beach last Sunday but lifeguard Lloyd Pierpont quickly aided them. Shirley Rogers 18 of Beverly Hills and Roy Hutchins 21 of Long Beach were carried out too far from shore before rescue.

During July the office of C A Miller issued three permits. Donald G Rice received a permit for a five room house and garage at 2215 Bay Lane with an estimated cost of 2300 dollars. A boat house and landing permit was issued for Cozad at 2430 Bay Lane. Andy's Bait Stand received a permit for an addition and minor repairs costing 100 dollars.
