Country neighbors along his route suggest peace may be possible and cite a relative of a prominent leader favoring federal self government. Dispatches from Havana also say Hamilton the American journalist will be released while others are to be shot despite protests. Washington says the Cuban war will end in six months, without foundation.
Mrs J Pierpont Morgan wife of the New York financier who has bought many government bonds visited the Treasury and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington with companions. A treasury guide showed the group the money vaults and noted she was viewing gold supplied by her husband.
The Tennessee Democratic convention in Nashville will nominate the governor for presidential electors and select delegates to Chicago. The gathering is overwhelmingly in favor of free silver.
