Lehigh Valley to Build New East Mauch Chunk Passenger Station

Ground will be broken as soon as weather allows for a new Lehigh Valley passenger depot at East Mauch Chunk on the present station site. Estimated cost is about fifty thousand dollars. The old Mauch Chunk station will be abandoned once the new building is completed due to its poor location on a sharp curve. The move aims to reduce delays from pusher-assisted starts and improve access for freight and coal trains from Packerton yards. Completion is hoped before fall, with the new depot similarly distant from town center and expected to draw more valley passenger traffic.
