Seven contracts totaling 12.3 million dollars were awarded by the state Highway Commission. The Brenda Cutoff segment of Interstate 10 in Yuma County will open late next year after completion of a 10.2 mile section funded by Tanner Bros. Sundt Construction won a 4 million dollar six mile stretch of Interstate 40 in Yavapai County.

Dr. J Norman Wahlrab a Phoenix chiropractor was found guilty of performing an illegal abortion by an eight to four jury. The jury verdict came after more than 24 hours of deliberation. The case stems from an January 1970 act involving a 24 year old divorcee who testified she paid 500 dollars for the abortion. Wahlrab testified he denied the accusation and cited Catholic beliefs.
