Suspect waives hearing in Pink Pony robbery case

A 23 year old Milford man Gordon Davis waived a preliminary hearing on three counts of armed robbery tied to the Pink Pony holdup at 3831 North Scottsdale Road. Davis is jailed without bond in Maricopa County while awaiting trial and is the third suspect in the $4000 take.

Woman injured in red light collision in Scottsdale

A 28-year-old Scottsdale woman Mary Egurrola was treated and released from Scottsdale Memorial Hospital for a leg injury after her car was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by 17-year-old Edward Shant that ran a red light at Second Street and Scottsdale Road. Shant was cited for failure to stop for a red light. Police also logged three other non serious accidents that day.

Four dismissed at Arizona Boys Ranch probe

Phoenix United Press International reports that two couples, Mr and Mrs Carroll Gillett and Mr and Mrs Ron King, were relieved of their posts at the Arizona Boys Ranch near Queen Creek. Acting Superintendent Lee Burke said the dismissals were not connected to two TV documentaries. The ranch population fell from 109 to 61 since the investigation began after Maricopa County juvenile court questioned conditions.

Car Fire Damages 1969 Chrysler on Scottsdale Road

A car owned by Mrs. James Shields at 6946 E. Gary suffered 150 dollars in damage in a Wednesday fire at the Scottsdale Road and Saguaro intersection. The 4:30 p.m. blaze involved a 1969 Chrysler station wagon and started from a carburetor backfire, remaining confined to the engine compartment.

Copper extraction method aims at pollution free process

University of Arizona engineers and Inspiration Consolidated Copper Co claim a smelterless copper extraction method using chemicals, electricity, and heat that produces no gas or dust. The process dissolves copper sulfides at 95 C, generates elemental sulfur, and electrolyzes to yield copper with similar costs to conventional smelting.

Two Scottsdale youths charged with grand theft

Police arrested Richard Lambert 18 and Ronald Correia 18 after a call about a suspicious auto at 3600 N Miller Rd. Officers recovered about 1500 in cash and valuables believed stolen from cars in a Scottsdale apartment lot. They are held pending arraignment in Scottsdale Justice Court.

Two Teens Report Indecent Exposure Incidents

Police investigated two separate indecent exposure cases reported by teenage girls on Wednesday afternoon. The first involved a 15-year-old bicyclist near Pima Road and Sandalwood Bonita alley, describing a beige Datsun pickup driver exposing himself. The second, near East Granada 7500 block, involved a 13-year-old who said a man in a Plymouth 1968 70 model pulled over and exposed himself after attempting conversation.

Rehnquist under Fire From Kunstler at Arizona Speech

Controversial attorney William Kunstler attacked former Phoenix attorney William H. Rehnquist as a constitutional subversive at a news conference. He warned Rehnquist would curb civil liberties to the vanishing point. Kunstler later spoke 85 minutes to about 3,000 people at Grady Gammage Auditorium.
