School Officials Push For Major Bond Election Turnout
School officials urged a strong turnout for Tuesday's eighth school bond election in eight years. The $1,755,000 bond funds improvements and expansion for elementary and high schools in the district. Polls run 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at nine campuses including Seatsdale High and Kachina, Kiva, Ingleside, Pima, Supai, Tavan, Tonalea and Tonfe elementary schools. Voters must cast ballots by 6 p.m. for the tax levy item union. Approval would let the district spend 10 cent tax levy money on stage construction in six schools. State law sets 6 p.m. close for tax issues. Scottsdale’s past bond success boosts confidence. past seven votes yielded one defeat. Separate votes on high school and elementary projects available. To vote, you must be a registered voter in the Senate, reside in the district for six months, own property in the district, and sign an affidavit at the polls. Registration available Monday at 36 E First St in Scottsdale or at Voters’ Registration, 438 E Adams. In last year’s bond election about 3,500 voted. Supt. John L. Ashe expects higher turnout.

56th Street Bridge Closed 60 Days for Widening
The 56th Street bridge over the Arizona Canal at Indian School Road will close for 60 days starting 8 a.m. Monday to replace the two lane span with a four lane crossing. Arcadia traffic will detour to 68th Street Monte Vista Road 48th Street and 44th Street. The project is part of Indian School Road widening from two to four lanes to Scottsdale. Woman Killed In Two Car Crash Here
A Greater Scottsdale woman, Marion Hoagland, 62, died after a two car crash at East Thomas and Hayden yesterday afternoon. Passenger in a northbound car driven by Eugene Spann, 28, Hoagland died at Doctor's Hospital after the crash also injuring Spann and Frieda Weisser, 55, who were treated for minor injuries. The collision occurred when Spann reportedly ran a red light. Death raises Arizona’s year to date fatalities to 413.
