County approves bids for Paradise Valley elementary school
The county board adopted plans and specifications and issued bids for a new Paradise Valley elementary school at 24th Street and Larkspur. Bids for Larkspur elementary and for curbing sidewalks and paving at Cholla school are to be opened December 9. The project cost is estimated at 370000 dollars, with hopes to reduce. The district funded the project through a prior bond issue. An assignment of contract transfers 3516 dollars from the district’s purchase of a prefabricated building from Rhodes Building and Development Co. to Lic the lic Building Co. of Houston.

Burglary Hits Thieves Men's Shop at Wind Sor Center
Thieves robbed Thieves Men's Shop at Wind sor Shop-for-Me in Frontier Town, taking over 5000 dollars worth of fall merchandise. Entered through a cut air vent roof, stealing suits shirts slacks sweaters and shoes in small to medium sizes. The thieves used the air vent and ceiling collapse to enter and dropped an adding machine as they fled. Police alerted at 3 30 a.m. after a patrolman spotted broken glass.

Polio Claims Second El Mirage Child Death
Health officials report six month old Aureliano Valdez of El Mirage died at Maricopa County Hospital after bulbar poliomyelitis. In the past month three area children contracted polio, making the Valdez death the second fatality in the El Mirage region.

Plane Strikes U.S. Ore Carrier Off Cuban Coast
An American owned 669 foot ore carrier J Louis was heavily strafed for over an hour about 12 miles off Cuba’s southwest coast by an unidentified aircraft. The ship with 49 crew members, en route from Jamaica to Corpus Christi, sustained hull and forepart fire damage but no crew casualties. It remained under its own power and expected to reach Corpus Christi late Wednesday night, while Reynolds Aluminum Co. reported no immediate notification of the attack.
