Traffic deaths rise in Arizona toll passes 1969 mark
United Press International reports weekend traffic fatalities in Arizona raise the year total to 578, with 58 more deaths than last year. In Chandler a 42 year old Virginia Lewis and 20 year old Patricia Lewis were killed when their car failed to stop and crashed into another vehicle. Alfred Felix of Scottsdale and his son were injured.

Burglary Report Links Home Theft and Church Break-In
Police say a radio and a set valued at 170 dollars were stolen from Richard Ferron at 520 N Park Way Ave between Oct 12 and Oct 18. Singrove is also accused of breaking into Scottsdale Presbyterian Church at 3421 N Hayden Rd and stealing 215 dollars in cash, a tape recorder and a safe from the pastor's office. Entry was through a window, between 9 30 p m Friday and 7 30 a m Saturday.

Phoenix Lands 162 Acre Park Bid At Bargain Price
Phoenix to acquire 162 acres for 405 dollars from the US Bureau of Land Management in a Thursday ceremony. Fire Destroys 1954 Mercedes Benz in Scottsdale Garage
A 1954 Mercedes Benz owned by Hal Breen was destroyed by fire at 5744 N Palo Christi Saturday evening. Fire crews from the Scottsdale Rural Fire Department arrived to find the car engulfed and extinguished the blaze. A separate fire at 618 N Old Scottsdale Rd caused minor damage to a ceiling and attic after a light fixture ignited, with $75 damage noted. A grass fire at 8235 Glenrosa damaged a storeroom but was put out by firefighters.

Guard recovers stolen furs in Phoenix incident
Private security guard Joe Henslee, 21, spotted two men near rear of stores in east Phoenix and confronted them. They fled in a car leaving a fur-filled stash behind. Police said the furs were stolen moments earlier from Switzer's at Thomas Mall.
