UPI reports four U.S. Army GIs killed when Communist forces ambushed a truck in the western DMZ near the United Nations outpost. Bodies found aboard, attackers fled. Names withheld pending family notifications amid ongoing clashes and joint drills in early March.
Deputy Attorney General Richard Kleindienst described Intercept as a calculated government crackdown on narcotics smuggling designed to force cooperation with Mexico and bring the Mexican government into meaningful negotiations.

Moscow reports Soyuz 8 with two cosmonauts Valdimir Shadlov and Alexei Yeliseyev landed in Karaganda central Asia at 12 10 Moscow time after a five day flight along with Soyuz 6 and 7 completing a week of space activity. The crews reported in good condition and conducted navigation tests and a space press conference. Communications with flight control were established via a vessel named after Vladimir Komarov and the Li Molniy satellite.
Larry Ross is reinstated as editor of the State Press at Arizona State University after a two hour meeting with Don Brown. The staff agreed on guidelines to govern the paper emphasizing responsible journalism and prohibiting libel indecency and harassment. Several staff members who resigned in Ross's support will return.
Police report Belfast quiet after government bars late liquor sales to curb rioting. Feuding Protestants and Roman Catholics cut night drinking early and went home as curfew kept crowds away. No repeat of last weekend’s violence, Army and RUC say the measure reduced street gatherings.

Four people were injured in a two car crash on Scottsdale Road at 6 40 am. Clinton Mielke 27 of 821 East Garfield was driving southbound and crossed the center line colliding with Terry Holmes 31 of Tempe in the northbound car. Holmes and Mielke were treated and released. Mielke was cited for failure to control vehicle.
President Nguyen Van Thieu said a South Vietnamese gunboat fired on a Soviet trawler offshore Friday. He noted some shooting and possible holes in the vessel, contradicting prior military statements that there was no shooting. Thieu added identification came after the chase and claimed no anticipated diplomatic incident.
