Two Soyuz spacecraft 7 and 8 remain in orbit in a joint flight with Soyuz 6 nearby. Tass reports show crews practicing manual control and tests including photography, map making, and medico biological research. Linkup between 7 and 8 expected. welding experiments planned on Soyuz 8.
The city-wide meeting at Eldorado Park 76th St and Oak at 5 45 p m invites all Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders and parents. Dinner provided as district and council leaders outline future activities. Scottsdale has 2697 registered Scouts in 64 units and aims for over 3300 early next year.
Obituaries note Lorraine Peterson of Scottsdale formerly from Hoyt Lakes Minnesota died Sunday at home. Also mentions Rosary for Rudolph Zinzun. Mass and burial plans in Illinois and Arizona. Beatrice Macdonald died today at Shangrila Nursing Home aged 76, a retired teacher who moved to Scottsdale in 1964 from Marion Indiana. Services Thursday 2 p m at Green Acres Mortuary with burial in Marion Indiana. survivors include son Larry Scottsdale sister Georgia Sansler Marion and two granddaughters.

Firefighters from Scottsdale Rural Fire department report $3,000 damage to a car owned by Robert Beck at 7505 FE Bernell Dr. due to a carburetor backfire. Truck 36 found no water, Truck 19 arrived four minutes later to bring the blaze under control. A second call for illegal burning at 11824 N. 64th St. was also handled and a local resident advised of burning laws.
U.S. defense officials consider a 50,000 troop reduction in South Korea after approving over 1 billion dollars in aid to the Korean armed forces. The plan would arm the South Korean army and navy with updated equipment while the U.S. keeps a nuclear shield and defense commitment. If Congress approves, realization could take years with an initial 1971 budget to refresh Korea’s weapons.
Police are seeking a suspect after two separate burglaries Sunday at 8420 BE Virginia apartments. Don Fendon reported $116 in clothing stolen and Dorothy Maruca $243 in clothing coins jewelry and bedding taken. The crimes occurred between 3 pm and midnight.
A Scottsdale youth, 15 year old Robert Whidden of 8739 E Cypress, was walking on E Oak St near Hayden Rd Monday night when two men in a blue or green late model station wagon called him over and fired two shots. He ducked into bushes and was not struck. Police report two witnesses heard shots at about the same time. Whidden described the assailants as 19 to 20 years old.
Bob Howard of 7502 E Virginia is installed Master Councilor of the Paradise Valley Chapter DeMoloy at the Masonic Temple in Scottsdale. Jim Vance and Jim Hawkins named senior and junior councilors with Nancy Engebretson as chapter sweetheart. The chapter named Chapter of the Year for Arizona DeMolays for the third year running. Installing team includes Kent Morehead and Rick Winchester with assistants.

A two car crash at Hayden and Indian School Roads left Theodore Kilbury of 8738 E Bonita in satisfactory condition after his westbound car hit a northbound vehicle driven by Richard Rodkey of 7825 E Loma Land. Rodkey received minor injuries and was cited for ignoring a traffic signal.
Scottsdale Jaycees announce the Parada del Sol Beard Contest beginning with a January 24 gathering in front of the Lulu Belle Restaurant to award trophies for Best Beard Shaggiest Beard Best Groomed Beard Longest Beard and Worst Attempt. Participants must be clean shaven as of October 24 and attest this on entry forms at local barber shops or the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce.
UPI reports the USSR set off a major underground nuclear explosion near Novaya Zemlya with estimates around one megaton. Swedish scientists suggested higher yields up to five megatons, while AEC measurements indicated an intermediate yield. The blast may relate to space program activities.
The Supreme Court refused to review the contempt conviction of W Meek an Arizona Republic employee in Maricopa County. Meek refused to leave a preliminary hearing after Rule 27 was invoked and was fined $300. the Arizona Court of Appeals upheld the ruling. The paper said it would pay the fine.
Scottsdale unit of the Arizona Consumers Council will be formed tonight at Coronado High School with temporary officers to be elected and divisions staffed.
