Bail motion to reduce Pyhel bond denied in Arizona

Defense motion to lower bail for Henry G. Pyhel 29 of Scottsdale was denied by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge William Gooding on a technicality. Pyhel remains free on a 13 750 bond as attorneys must correct filing errors before Friday.

Growth seen for Arizona via orderly development

Gov. Jack Williams told the 15th Arizona Town Hall session that growth will come to Arizona due to its appeal but requires an orderly plan of development. He said expansion of the economic base would raise state revenues to fund essential services and emphasized that growth will occur regardless, calling development an orderly, planned effort.

Israeli air strikes hit Jordan base near Amman

Israeli warplanes attacked a guerrilla base near Salt three miles north of Salt, Amman, Jordan, in a brief raid described as lasting a few minutes. Raiders returned safely, following earlier strikes into Egypt along the Suez Canal amid a temporary truce to recover Egyptian commandos’ bodies.

Soviet Union puts third crewed craft into orbit in space station bid

MOSCOW UP I reports the Soviet Union launched Soyuz 8 joining Soyuz 6 and 7 to form a three ship group circling Earth. Cosmonauts Col Vladimir Shatalov and Alexei Yeliseyev aboard Soyuz 8 join veterans from the earlier flights as engineers study geology and map oceans. Officials say all systems are normal and crews in good health.

Miranda denial ends bid for second trial in landmark case

The Supreme Court refused Ernesto A. Miranda a new hearing, upholding the February 1969 Arizona ruling that affirmed his second rape conviction. Miranda, serving 20 to 25 years for robbery, had previously seen his first conviction reversed due to improper warnings about legal counsel and self incrimination.

Burglaries probe three Scottsdale homes over weekend

Police investigated burglaries at three Scottsdale residences reporting thefts of items totaling about 177 dollars. A .38 revolver valued at 50 dollars was stolen from Kathleen Allen's home on Thornwood between 9 am and midnight Saturday. bedding, two pairs of cowboy boots worth 112 dollars were taken from George Neiman's house on First Ave between October and October 10. a rear bedroom window was broken and a radio worth 15 dollars was stolen from Robert W. Adrian's home on Beatrice Avenue between 5 and 7 pm Saturday. Entry methods varied or unknown.

Rural Fire Department Answers Two Weekend Calls

The Scottsdale Rural Fire Department responded to two weekend calls. An exhaust fan catch fire was reported at 2 57 p m Saturday at 8620 E Holly the H R Jacques residence but no fire was found upon arrival. A complaint of illegal burning at 6407 FE Cactus at 10 40 a m Sunday led to the resident being advised to extinguish the fire.

Five hurt in three Sunday auto accidents near Scottsdale

Five persons injured in three separate one car crashes within an hour early Sunday. Phyllis Crim, 26, is in satisfactory condition at Scottsdale Baptist Hospital after a crash on Pima Road. Threat reported after knife threat in neighborhood

John P. Fox, 48, of 82113 Garfield said he complained about loud music Sunday and was threatened with a knife by the neighbor's 13 year old son. Fox went to a nearby townhouse at about 515 p.m. and the youth appeared with a knife during the dispute. Police referred the child to his mother.
