Obituary of John P. Smith former Holsum Bakery executive
John P. Smith died Wednesday in Good Samaritan Hospital after a long illness. Services will be 11 am Saturday at A. L. Moore and Sons Mortuary in Phoenix with burial at Greenwood Memorial Park. He was 73 and lived at 2630 North 56th Street. Survivors include his wife Irene of Phoenix, three daughters Jackie Ater of Long Beach California Maxine Ratter and Ann Pater of Phoenix, and seven grandchildren. He worked for Holsum from 1941 to 1960 and earlier was general manager of Bayless Market. Born in Haroldboro Kentucky, he moved to Phoenix in 1925 and was a member of the Phoenix Elks Lodge 335 and Phoenix Downtown Lions Club.

Driver hurt at intersection on 68th and McDowell
At the 68th Street and McDowell Road intersection a collision involving William Roberts 93 and Hayes Wicker 19 left Roberts with minor injuries. Police cited Wicker for failure to yield and Roberts for suspended license. Three other crashes at the same intersection caused no injuries. Traffic signals are out for about three weeks while engineers redesign the system.
