Saigon dispatch reports 240 Americans killed and 470 wounded in the latest U.S. casualties across all services, led by the 1st Cavalry Division in Ia Drang. Total U.S. deaths since 1961 reach 1,335 with 6,131 wounded and 86–88 killed in the prior week.
Scottsdale hosts Motorola executives and Sen. Carl Hayden at a luncheon as Motorola weighs site options for expansion in the Valley. A 56th Street and McDowell location is discussed alongside possible Mesa and Thunderbird Field land. Motorola recently leased 20,000 square feet in Phoenix and may still seek a large manufacturing site. Mayor Bill Clayton praised Hayden for aiding airport development and urged continued Scottsdale expansion. Hayden to tour facilities today.
Intermittent rain lingered in Arizona for a third day as the U S Weather Bureau forecast little change through Monday with light showers and moderate precipitation in northern sections. Rain totals ranged from sprinkles at Bisbee to over two inches at Payson Flagstaff Maverick McNary and other spots. Temperatures stayed mild with no freezing readings and a low of 34 at Grand Canyon.
Murmansk Newcomb Mott of Sheffield Massachusetts was sentenced to 18 months in a Soviet labor camp for illegally entering Russia on September 4. He cried during the verdict and claimed it was unjust. His mother Mrs Howard Mott flew in for the trial and said her 27 year old son was scared of Russian prisons.

Six construction and building materials firms filed suits in Superior Court to collect more than 200000 tied to a Paradise Valley mansion reportedly costing over 2 million for millionaire Walker McCune. Phoenix attorney Robert Kersting joined another suit for 122000 in fees.
President Johnson expressed deep personal anguish over American deaths in Vietnam while noting the sacrifices defend South Vietnam from aggression. Press secretary Moyers said 240 U.S. troops were killed last week and the President believes the sacrifices serve a great cause for freedom and countering aggression.

City Manager Bill Donaldson announces a crackdown on about 500 residents owing over $27 000 in delinquent sewer charges. Louis Sidell 53 of Scottsdale, part owner of a downtown service station, died after opening the Douglas Service Station. Police said a heart attack caused his collapse in the driveway. an autopsy was ordered. Earlier robbery murder fears were ruled out.
