Scottsdale Clergy Split Over Death Penalty Picket

Scottsdale ministers hold mixed views on capital punishment as a poll shows broad opposition among clergy while several local pastors decline or indicate conditional support for protest. Key figures include Rev. Milton Van Slyke and Rev. Larry Branum expressing personal opposition, and Rev. H. Calhoun noting uncertainty about joining protests at the capitol. The controversy centers on Cozzie Merrill Jones, slated for execution after a stay, with several churches weighing stance amid marches planned for mid January.
