Tom Seaver shined with a three hit game and 16 strikeouts as the Mets overcome a 2-1 deficit in the ninth inning. Ken Boswell and Bud Harrelson sparked the rally with a walk and a single loading the bases before Wayne Garrett drew a walk to tie it. Felix Millan drove in two on a single and scored on George Theodore’s sac fly. Other NL results: Dodgers over Phillies 9-3, Cardinals over Reds 2-0, Pirates over Braves 6-1, Cubs over Astros 7-1.
In Las Vegas a foot injury forced golf star Mickey Wright to withdraw from the $100,000 Sealy Faberge event. Wright, a dominant figure in LPGA, was co favored with Kathy Whitworth to win the $25,000 prize and a $6,000 car.
The Phoenix Giants end a three game skid by edging the Spokane Indians 2 1 in Eugene as Frank Riccelli allows ten hits and fans nine. Jim Rosario drives in a run with a fifth inning double and Skip James adds a run scoring single.
Sprinter Eddie Hart to compete at the Kennedy Games in Berkeley coming out of retirement for the fifth annual event. Hart, an Olympic 100 meter co favorite, will anchor the sprint relay and may run the 220, after missing the Munich semifinals due to a wrong starting time.
New York Nets officials announced at a noon news conference that they have signed Dave DeBusschere to a multi year six figure contract as general manager and vice president. He will join coach Kevin Loughery on the Nets bench and bring pro basketball experience and respect from players.
Don McKee of Scottsdale High is selected as Outstanding Senior Athlete and North squad member for tonight's Star game at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. He batted .347 with 19 steals and 20 runs, earning MVP and Best Defensive Player honors for the Beavers.

The Fourth Annual Coronado High School golf invitational will be at Coronado Golf Course with seventh grade event on Friday for seventh graders and some eligible fifth and sixth graders. The eighth grade tournament spans two days with nine hole medal play each day. Entry fees are 1.50 and 2.50, with 8 to 9 a.m. tee times and awards for top five and special honors Friday.
Two Arcadia High School skaters Hal and Cathleen Marron won both dance titles at the Utah State Junior Dance Championships over the weekend. Hal, 17, and Cathleen, 15, impressed judges with a tango and a foxtrot. The Skating Club of Phoenix members train at the Ice Palace in Tower Plaza under coach Gerry Ketchum Wright.
Mesa Community College Hokams were eliminated from the national junior college baseball tournament with a 13-5 defeat to Columbia State Tennessee. Columbia scored eight unearned runs aided by six Mesa errors while Dearstone collected four hits with three doubles and five RBIs. Mesa attempted a late rally with three runs in the sixth but trailed 9-2 at that point.
