Wounded suspect in home break-in condition stable

A 17 year old Scottsdale youth, Paul J. Williamson, was shot in the chest around 3 a.m. while entering a home on McDonald Drive. Neitzel reported prior break-in attempts, chased the suspect from the roof, and fired one carbine round through a broken window. Williamson was to graduate from Saguaro High School.

Blind man and companion robbed at gunpoint near 70th Street

A blind man Richard K. Walker and his friend David L. Smith were robbed of $40 by two young men on Palm Lane near 70th Street around 5 05 p m. A pickup pulled up and a pistol was used to force surrender of the money before the suspects fled in the truck.

Two Hurt As Car Burst Into Flames After Crash

Two people were injured Saturday night when a car in which they rode burst into flames after a three car collision on McDowell Road at 77th Street. Karen Miller 22 of Phoenix driver and Edward Estes 22 of Tempe passenger treated and released at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital.

Joseph O. Robl 61 died Sunday at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. Rosary tonight at Green Acres Mortuary and Mass Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Interment at St. Francis Cemetery. Survivors include wife Lucille and siblings, with several relatives in Phoenix, California, and Colorado. Friends may call at the mortuary until 8 tonight.

Mass for Mildred P. McCoy Held at Our Lady Church

Mrs. Mildred P. McCoy 46 died Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital. A Mass was held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church with burial at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. She lived on East Earls Drive and came from Chicago six years ago. Survived by husband James, son Michael, daughter Mary, all of Scottsdale, brother John Walczak of Scottsdale, another brother and four sisters out of state. Messinger Mortuary arranged services.

Funeral rites set for Holly I. Prohosky in Scottsdale

Mrs. Holly I. Prohosky 45 died Monday at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. A rosary will be at 8 p.m. tonight at Messinger Mortuary. Funeral mass is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Daniel's Church. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery. She lived at 88601 E Windsor and was born in Victor, Colorado. She came to Scottsdale.

Carefree Inn reports theft and break in at Pride of the Hide

Carefree Inn reports a tape recorder and radio valued at 650 dollars stolen from a storage room after a hole was kicked in. Deputies said an additional break in at Pride of the Hide leather goods shop netted 650 dollars in clothing including skirts and purses after glass in the front door was broken.

Scottsdale Man Dies After Apparent Self Inflicted Gunshot

A 47 year old Scottsdale man Richard C. Davis died Monday from an apparent self inflicted gunshot to the head. His son Mark Davis found the body in the bedroom after entering by slipping the locked door. Police say marital problems were reported between the victim and his wife.

Sun lovers flock to lakes across Arizona over long weekend

More than 40 000 people flocked to Arizona lakes rivers and recreation areas during Memorial Day weekend. Carl Christensen of the National Park Service estimated 20 000 to 25 000 visitors at the Grand Canyon and noted every motel room and campsite was rented for the period.

Body Found in Canyon Lake May Be Missing Boater

A body recovered by a fisherman from Canyon Lake Monday may be one of three people who disappeared in a Dec. 23 boating accident. Deputies from Maricopa County said the aged man appeared to have been in the water for some time.

Glider Pilot Rescued Near Gila River

Richard Philbrick a Tucson boy was rescued by a Department of Public Safety helicopter after landing his glider in a remote area along the Gila River near St. Johns Indian School and mission. The helicopter was dispatched to the landing area on Monday to recover him.

Last of 2800 Navy bombs from SP train destroyed

The final unexploded bombs from a Southern Pacific freight train explosion were to be removed by truck. About 2,800 Navy bombs were in 12 freight cars that blew up Thursday night in a desert area, causing only minor injuries to two people.
