Pentagon waste cited in billions in weapons purchases
A congressional subcommittee accused the Pentagon of waste in weapon purchases, urging a tougher review of military spending. Senator William Proxmire said the report indicts Defense Department practices that inflated taxpayer costs, citing limited true competitive bidding and heavy contractor concentration. The panel criticized incentive contracts and noted the report covers pre Nixon administration periods.
