Scottsdale flood plan in Indian Bend faces approval hurdle
Wash Lowry, flood district chief, has given mixed signals on Scottsdale engineer John Erickson’s flood plan for Indian Bend. The proposal envisions three 1500-foot earthen retention dams and a landscaped flood plain, aiming to manage 3000 cfs, with Corps of Engineers approval pending and previous 40 000 cfs plan noted as a contrast. Lowry later said he did not approve the plan at a March meeting due to lacking authority, while acknowledging merit in the retention-dam concept and awaiting further corps review.
