Zoning suit against City of Scottsdale delayed for weeks
A zoning lawsuit filed by Environmental Developers of Denver and B C Kranzler Jr of Newport Beach against the City of Scottsdale is postponed as attorney memoranda are requested and final arguments are expected to follow. The case concerns a half acre at Camelback and Hayden with claims that high rise zoning was in effect despite the city saying final ordinance not approved. City planning director Bill Walton and others testified about representations to plaintiffs that zoning was in effect. Kranzler's approved high rise hotel and condo plans in 1969 allegedly fell through after height limits dropped from 120 to 60 feet.

Other high density proposals from the Gainey Ranch and Herberger properties are also under review. Eisner, who drafted the 1965 plan, recommended periodic reevaluation every four to five years, per City Manager Bill Donaldson.
