Hualapai Dam Use Blocked by Senate Interior Panel
The Senate Interior Committee tentatively voted to bar a dam at Hualapai site below Grand Canyon as part of the Central Arizona Project. An amended bill would pause licensing by the Federal Power Commission without Congress approval. The move, led by Sen. Hayden, marks a conservation victory while another Hayden amendment creates a Lower Colorado River Development Fund funded by surplus power revenue and project profits.
