Lillian Shaheen, a 19 year Phoenix police veteran now assistant director of Scottsdale Youth Services, teaches belly dancing at the YWCA. A native of Michigan with a year in Lebanon, she calls the sacred wedding dance a serious, respectful art and will start classes at the Scottsdale Tempe branch on Granit e Reef Road next Tuesday. She aims for all ages and sees it as enjoyable exercise despite family challenges including a nephew who locked himself in handcuffs.
