Sailboats Rise in Arizona Waters Show Growing Club
Arizona Yacht Club, the state’s only yacht club, has grown from 17 members and 3 boats in 1958 to 70 members. Commodore Dave Shapiro of Scottsdale notes the sport’s surge with sailing races at Canyon Lake and trips to Northern Arizona lakes, Rocky Point, and Guaymas, Mexico. Other officers include Ed Smith Phoenix vice commodore Sam Oldman Phoenix rear commodore Frank Bigelow Mesa fleet captain Roy Ciappini Scottsdale treasurer and Murray Stuart Phoenix secretary with four board members.
