Nixon to Name Clement Haynsworth to Supreme Court
President Nixon intends to nominate Federal Appeals Judge Clement F. Haynsworth Jr. of South Carolina to the Supreme Court. Dirksen said the nomination would be announced Thursday unless signals change. Ziegler said an announcement would come late this week or early next week. Haynsworth, 59, has 12 years on the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and would be the second Nixon pick after Burger. The choice marks a shift toward strict constructionists and may affect criminal-prosecution balance. Haynsworth was born Oct 30 1912 in Greenville and earned degrees from Furman and Harvard Law. He served in the Navy, then led South Carolina's largest law firm before his 1957 federal appointment by Eisenhower.

Burglary Sprees Leave Cash, Radios Missing in Scottsdale
A Scottsdale homeowner reported burglars forced a kitchen door and stole $300 cash and two radios from 8322 E Glenrosa. Radios were found behind the home. Other crimes include a TV worth 200 from 408 N 73rd St, a screen cut to enter, and a gold diamond wedding ring taken from 701 S Lewis. Two brothers aged 9 and 12 were arrested for another break in, and a fire caused about 50 damage at S W Spears. Police logged multiple incidents over Monday night into Tuesday morning.
