Jogger Calorie Burn Rates Compared to Runners
A UPI report notes that a daily jogger burning about 100 calories may lose roughly 10 pounds per year, but JAMA says exercise alone cannot shed pounds. An Air Force Academy study finds a 170 pound man running 1.5 miles in eight minutes burns 175 calories, while the same man jogging 16 minutes burns 157. Either way, burning 3,500 calories per pound would require a long time.

Bartow Keeps Violin Craft Alive In Lansing
Clarence Nolan Bartow, 57, a Lansing violin maker, handcrafts violins from maple and fine woods in a cluttered rooming-house shop. He spent a month on each instrument and sold four or five last year at about 1000 dollars each, supplementing income with piano tuning and other stringed instruments. Bartow trained in Dearborn and Cremona, Italy, rejects claims of secret violin making, and says few people in the region pursue the craft. He laments factory production and notes he is arguably the last dedicated craftsman in the area.
