Minutes after Eisenhower was laid to rest in Abilene a grieving Mamie Eisenhower faced the stark aftermath of mourning. The public calm and a wind disturbing the flag marked the ceremony as she left the chapel with her son John D. Eisenhower and returned to the funeral train bound for Washington.

Big Four open Mideast talks in New York apartment

Funeral services for Jack D. Carter, a Scottsdale Marine killed in Vietnam, will be held at Messinger Mortuary at 10 a.m. Saturday. Carter, born in Portsmouth Ohio, lived at 7301 Be La Reata La and is survived by his parents two brothers three sisters and a grandmother. Diane Toutfest Baxter, Coronado High graduate, died Tuesday in Mill Valley California in a mountain climbing accident. She was 22, born in Chicago, and survived by Dallas her husband her parents three brothers a sister and two grandmothers. Burial for Carter will be at Rest Haven Cemetery after a 2 p.m. service Saturday. Friends may visit the mortuary before the service.

Fire damages home and grass fires reported around town
Fire caused about 4000 dollars damage to W R Glick's house at 98140 E Mulberry near seven this morning. The Rural Fire Department said the blaze confined to the living room and linked to a faulty phonograph card. Earlier, a small bathroom blaze in Larry Fuller's home was blamed on children with matches. doused at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Additional calls included a faulty light fixture at Mrs O H Mitchell's home at 3:30 a.m. and several grass fires near Diamond, K-Mart, and 86th Street and Indian Bend. A pickup brake linings fire led to roadside grass flames.

Four men held on kidnapping and rape charges in Phoenix
Four men were held on charges of kidnapping and raping two 14 year old girls. Suspects identified include Lonnie Weatherford of Mesa Harold Wredbrectana 24 of Scottsdale Kenneth Goodwin 22 of Apache Junction and Roy Smith 23 of Mesa. Victims abducted near their homes in northeast Phoenix last Thursday and driven to a secluded area near Saguaro Lake where the assaults occurred at knife point.
