French minister sees hope for Viet peace
Paris reports French Foreign Minister Michel Debre noted indications favorable to peace in public statements by South Vietnam and the United States. Allied sources said South Vietnam might test Viet Cong support in polls if the insurgents renounce Communism, while Saigon vows elections show Communist failure.

Mrs Marion H Seaton 53 died Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital after moving from Sierra Madre to Phoenix in 1953 and Scotts dale in 1956. Survivors include husband Charles R and three sons. Services at 3 p.m. at Scottsdale United Methodist Church 300 N Miller with burial at Green Acres Cemetery Chester. Mr Harness 78 died Tuesday in Mesa General Hospital. Native of Somerset Kentucky, he lived at 7602 E Van Buren and was an artist showing works along Scottsdale Rd. Survived by Bernice wife, son Fendo, daughter Phyllis Fischer, a brother and four sisters, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Burial at Greenwood Memorial Park after 11 a.m. Thursday service at Messinger Mortuary.

Navy seeks 2.7 billion to modernize U S fleet
The Navy asked Congress for 2.7 billion dollars to begin modernizing the U S fleet. The proposal includes a 222 million dollar nuclear guided missile frigate, five destroyers and two amphibious assault ships. Vice Adm. Colwell testified to the Senate Armed Services Committee that over 500 of 900 ships are over 20 years old and many are uneconomical to operate or repair. He urged rapid ship replacements and a long term program.
Scottsdale shop owner to face fugitive harboring charge
Eberlee Myers 30 who runs Jerri's La Boutique in Fashion Square Scottsdale is charged by the FBI with concealing and harboring a man sought for failure to appear to serve a federal sentence. Myers was released on 5000 dollar bond. The fugitive Irwin Gordon 44 also known as Joe Myers and Irving Garfinkle, is described as six feet tall 235 pounds with brown hair and a broken nose. He is wanted for a three year sentence under the Federal Bankruptcy Act in Hartford Connecticut. He reportedly frequented Myers shop while on the run.
