The Bookshelf reports the Hogan Paulus Publishing Company of New York has released Wonder Thoughts of Childhood. The book aims to charm both adults and children through a mother’s loving understanding and has received favorable early reception from its intended young readers.
A six year old imagines climbing a mountain and peering beyond the blue to glimpse the dear Lord. The piece highlights children's wonder and introduces Mrs. Vilas’s portrayal in My Pretend Friend and other stories. It notes humorous vignettes like Hair Brushing Time, The Hardware Shop, and The Color Question, and ends with a tender reflection on a mother’s touch.
A passage highlights poems like The Poemy Way and Little Sticks as strong examples of devotion to motherhood. Wonder Thoughts of Childhood is praised for its illustrations and adds to the children's book list. Mrs Vilas, long-time Scarsdale resident, is active in several literary groups.
A Saturday afternoon crash at Richbell and Post roads damaged a spring so badly a wrecking car was needed. William Olson drove the first car, owned by August Reigel of White Plains, and Charles Schultz of Mount Vernon drove the other. Schultz was served with a summons.
