Churches Honor Ed Mothers Day Observances Across Town

Sunday observances in Scandia churches celebrated Mothers Day with special music readings and gifts. The Methodist church honored the oldest mother Mrs. Charles Peterson with a geranium. other mothers received carnations. U B and Presbyterian services included musical programs and class presentations.

Will Rogers Humorous Story About Saving Two Kids

The tale recalls Will Rogers humor about a boy who claims he saved the Jones twins from drowning after coming home soaked. His mother questions the tale while the boy insists his act saved them from danger, highlighting lighthearted schoolyard logic and parental disbelief.

Junior Senior Banquet Opens Commencement Week

Friday night the high school held the junior senior banquet in the gym. Faculty and board members attended. Decorations featured a Scottish theme with a false wall in American Beauty rose and gray. Sophomore students served as waiters while mothers of junior students prepared the dinner. Dr J C Everett spoke on Business is Good. Class Night followed and the Commencement address was to be given by Rev Thomas O Parish.

Community Club Meeting Set for May 22

The Community Club will meet Monday evening May 22 to discuss the Scandia picnic and other future events. Dr. Lowell and Allan Gunter are named as the solicitors and urge all Scan dia residents to attend.

Alumni Banquet Approaches as Dues and Attendees Rise

Alumni are urged to notify secretary Gayl Tedrow by Friday May 19. Dues and plate fees are required for entrance. If unable to attend, members should still pay dues to support the banquet served by the Methodist ladies. Mrs Guy Frazier presides.

Mothers Day Cake Delight From Mrs Frazier

The note thanks Mrs. Guy Frazier for a beautifully decorated Mothers Day cake given to Mrs. Nancy A. McKimson of Glen Elder who, at 89, says she never saw a more beautiful cake. A similar cake went to printer Cap Berger’s mother in Abilene. Kenneth and Roscoe Cooper visited in Scandia with Mrs. Roscoe Cooper.

Beachcomber at Princess Theater this weekend

The Beachcomber stars Charles Laughton and Elsa Lanchester and plays Saturday and Sunday at the Princess Theatre. The tropical comedy follows Ginger Ted who clashes with a South Sea island spinster as romance heats up among glamorous island beauties.

Behind Locked Doors benefits Scandia Band three act mystery

Work began last week on another play to aid the Scandia Band fund need about 50 more dollars to meet summer expenses. The three act mystery comedy Behind Locked Doors features Ada Jeandebeur Norma Aspegren John Nystrom Jimmy Larsen Bobby Ewing Ercell Lundblade Vernon Holmes and Walter H Berger with Ed Wires directing. The Scandia Community Club sponsors the production and dates will be announced.

Class of 1939 Presents Memorial Flag to School

The Class of 1939 leaves a 4 by 6 ton silk flag bound with 2 inch gold braid and tassels. It is mounted on an eight foot staff with a gilt base and eagle top, with an engraved name plate and certificate signed by all members. Presentation to the school occurs May 16 during the Class Night program.

Last Day of School Picnic Highlights Friday Schedule

Friday marks the last day of school with track events at the athletic field for all grades. Races include sack events for various grades, yard dashes by grade level, and a potato race for seventh and eighth. High school boys run the hundred yard dash with three prizes per event. A softball game pits south side against north side business men.

Three Cancer Weapons Warned by Kansas Leader

Mrs. Muir, state commander of the Kansas Women's Field Army, cites three cancer weapons as radium, X ray, or surgery and urges public education on cancer. Local visits include Mr and Mrs Hampton and Barbara traveling to Lindsborg, with plans to visit Abilene and McPherson later.

Seattle girl chosen as Northwest Airlines stewardess

Miss Dorothy Welch of Seattle was selected as a stewardess for Northwest Airlines on its Seattle to Billings service launching May 1. A UW graduate and Providence hospital trained nurse, she previously supervised at Swedish hospital. Fellow Seattle resident Miss Florence Aldrich also was chosen. both will serve between Seattle and Billings.

Pavement Dance Slated After Alumni Banquet
