Commencement and Alumni Events At Scandia High

The Scandia High School commencement for 23 seniors occurs tonight at City Hall at 8 o clock with Rev W R Holt delivering the address Courage. The program includes diplomas presented by Ernest Nelson and a community dinner Friday noon at Miller s Rink followed by athletic events and the Alumni Banquet at I O C F hall Friday at six thirty.

Memorial Day Plans in Scandia Outline Services and Parade

Plans for Decoration Day observances in Scandia include a union church service at the Presbyterian Church on Sunday May 28 with Rev David Cunningham. Memorial Day program at City Hall chaired by Parlee Plotner features musical numbers and an address by Rev Charles Pehrson. A cemetery parade led by American Legion and ex servicemen follows, and local businesses are asked to close from 1 to 4 PM to allow attendance.

Truck En Route To Concordia Overturns In Road Crash

A light delivery truck from the Concordia Mercantile Company overturned last Thursday about six miles northwest of Concordia on the Scan dig road. The driver Keith Graham was blinded by approaching car lights and the truck struck a high bank, tipping and rolling several times. He was cut by broken glass but is reported in painful condition.

Princess Theatre Resumes Talkies at Scandia City Hall

After a temporary closing the Princess Theatre will resume feature pictures at Scandia City Hall. The grand opening Friday evening features Horse Feathers with the four Marx brothers, with tickets priced 10 and 15 cents.

Rev David Cunningham Named Interim Pastor in New Scandia

The Rev. David Cunningham is retained by the executive board of the local United Brethren Presbyterian Church. He studied at a Chicago Presbyterian Seminary and will resume studies in the fall, serving the local church during the summer months.

Sick Girl Found Lying On Road North Of Town

A 19 year old woman identified as Mrs Ray Morehead of Kansas City Missouri collapsed near Highway 36 one mile north in a comatose state. Doctors treated her at Patterson hospital Belleville and she later said she and her husband and his brother were hitchhiking to Denver. She wandered after an epileptic spell and was deserted by the men before reaching Scandia.

Eighth grade graduation exercises colorfully held

An eighteenth annual Scandia eighth grade commencement featured a full program led by Miss Poage. Notable moments included salutatory by Frances Cooper, class history by June Freed, oration by Gordon Stukenbroeker, and diploma presentations with Ralph Hawkins and Jack Reece among the receivers.

Former Scandia Man Dies in Concordia

Daniél J. Kjillander, a Sunset Home resident in Concordia, died Monday after a brief illness. Born 84 years ago in Sweden, he leaves two daughters in Superior. He left Scandia last September after his wife’s death. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon and burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia.

Kansas Livestock Feeders Day set for Kansas State College Manhattan on Saturday May 27 with two main features addresses by notable speakers and reports on cattle feeding experiments. Martin Aberg Former Scandian Dies in Kansas

Martin Aberg born near Scandia in 1899 died last Saturday in Larned Kansas after eleven years as a State Hospital patient. Funeral services were held Monday at the Scandia Lothran Church with Rev. Chas Pehrson officiating. Interment was made at the Lutheran Cemetery.

Scandia High News captured first place in division C for schools under 200 at the seventh annual tri state press contest in Midland College. The Advocate Lincoln The Echo and News Scandia Kansas won top trophies in their divisions with 19 Nebraska 10 Kansas and 6 Iowa papers in the field. State Fire Marshal Reports April Fire Losses Soar

The April fire loss report by John S. Gilmore shows 63 counties reporting, with total state losses reaching $503,906.00. Allen and McPherson counties alone logged over $290,000, and the Sifers Candy Company fire in Tolga Costing $200,000.00.
