New Tax Rules Expand Exemptions for Educational and Charitable Bodies
Kansas sales tax rules now exempt purchases by non profit charitable groups such as American Red Cross Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts when used in their institutions. Exemptions cover food bandages drugs X ray equipment beds lighting and building materials but exclude homes for staff and ministerial residences. Educational and religious bodies gain exemptions for building materials and related items used exclusively in those institutions. All exemptions require proper certificate of exemption. A new ruling on community sales and auctions also issued.

Recreation Plans for Scandia Club Tennis Court Surfacing

Truck and car collide at drug store corner
An empty oil truck driven by Lafe Garst of Holdrege Nebraska and a 1936 Dodge sedan driven by David Greeger of Columbus Ohio collided at the drug store corner Sunday evening. Both vehicles suffered front-end damage and onlookers gathered. The Dodge was taken to Moe Garage for repairs. Greeger and James Thomas of Columbus Ohio are medical students at Ohio State University.

New Road Section Opened After Construction Overrun
Traffic was routed over the new road section between five overflow bridges on Highway 36 west of Scandia after excess dirt was moved to allow access. State engineers accepted the five bridges on June 10, with clean-up work finishing the fill shoulders. Heavy rains loosened the surface causing deep ruts and impassable conditions, delaying travel as maintenance crews aided stalled vehicles.

Snow White to Show at Princess Four Days
Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will screen at the Princess Theatre in Scandia for four days from June 24 to 27. Home Oil buys transport truck for Derby to Wichita runs
The Home Oil and Supply Co. added a gas transport truck to haul gasoline from the Derby Refinery in Wichita. A Chevrolet truck was purchased in Belleville with a large trailer and tank in Wichita. Gus Bentsen and Doug Las Gunter drove the truck to Wichita and back with Derby Products completing the first home owned transport trip.

Belleville Airport Hangar Burns in Fire
A Belleville city hangar at the Belleville airport was destroyed by a fire last Saturday night with damages near 25000 dollars. The blaze discovered about 11 pm by resident James Henry west of Belleville, origin undetermined. Built ten years ago, the hangar was once operated by Rothman Air Lines but has been idle for years and now serves storage while the field is farmed.
