Farm Bureau records guide 75 percent coverage at two thirds to two and a half bushels per acre and 50 percent at one half bushel per acre. Rates depend on six year farm yields and soil fertility with a six tenths bushel minimum premium. If yields are unavailable an appraisal yield may be used. Applications accepted at the Republic County Farm Bureau office until seeding.

Last Rites for Hugh Fraser Held at local church
Last rites for Hugh Fraser were conducted at the Methodist Episcopal church on Wednesday June 8 at 2 30 pm Rev J E Englund presiding. A mixed quartet sang The Old Rugged Cross and Some Sweet Day with Mrs Ed Wires and Miss Blanche Haggman performing A Song of Trust. The sermon titled The Many Mansions in Our Fathers House followed. The Masonic lodge attended in a body and provided pallbearers while honorary pallbearers were named. Interment occurred at Riverview Cemetery with Masons in charge.

Scandia Sanitarium Moves to Grant Avenue
The Scandia Sanitarium relocated from the Weisingel house on Cloud Street to Grant Avenue south of the Presbyterian church. The first floor will house the bath house while the O. V. Nichols family occupies the second floor. The facility had been on Main Street until 1934 and run in Scandia by George and Dr. O. V. Nichols for 14 years.

650 Year Old White Oak Dies on Trace Mountain
The ancient white oak near Williamson West Virginia, claimed by timbermen as one of the world’s largest and 650 years old, died after failing to bud this spring. A. W. Lee of Island Creek Coal Co Holden declared it dead. The tree stood 146 feet tall with a 30 foot girth and over 177000 feet of lumber inside.

A half inch of rain fell early Tuesday morning followed by an inch in ten minutes in the afternoon. A heavy wind damaged rye and oats on heavy soils while many limbs broke from halfdead trees. Farmers say wheat escaped significant harm.
